Last night, which was Asia's Monday, in Yangoon, Mynanmer's, tens of thousands of anti-government citizens took action to march against the government. This was the largest protest in almost 2 decads. There was about 10,000 monks in the protest, joined by thousands of students and other citizens, to form a total population of at least 30,000 to 100,000. The reason this protest had happened was because in August, when the government decided to double the gas price which had shocked the people of Mynanmer's. The last time Yangon witnessed such a large gathering was in 1988. Military crack down on the event as the same time, killing 3,000 protesters. Protesters fears that the government is about to crack down the event once again, but the government of Mynanmer is underpressure from China to avoid the crackdown. The reason China is putting pressure to avoid the crackdown is because China is a big supporter for the junta as the world knows, and allowing this crackdown would not have a good impression on China as they are the host for next year's olympic games. Other protesters are afraid that the military will use force soon, but Aung Naing Oo, a former student leader told CBC that as the protesters continue to march through the streets, there will be fewer options for the military. Even local celeberties such as actor Kyaw Thu and comedian Zargana had given support to the protesters on Monday. Celeberties provided the protesters with food and water. Kyaw Thu told reporters that they are also buddhist, and they will do everything they can to take care of the protesters as the protesters are doing alot on behalf of the people of Mynamer.
Though I don't think protesting would have a good reflection on the country; however, I totally support the protest of the monks agains the government. The government are inconsiderate, inresponsible and unreasonable for rasing the fuel price. This puts more pressure on the citizens in order to afford a car and pay the fuel price. The purpose of rasing the gas price was to make more money for the government and I think that is really wrong, espicially when controlling a country. If I was a citizen of Mynamer, I would join personally join the protest against the government without a doubt. With presure from China to avoid crack down, I think this protest will work and convince the government to lower the gas price, if not, the protest should continue to go on until the government is willing to stop being greedy and work towards benefits for the people and citizens of Mynamer.
