Daughters Call 911 On Speeding Dad

On Saturday night, a man named Robert Montoya, who is 52 was arrested for drunk driving with three young passengers trapped in the vehicle, and two of the three passengers were his own children. With desperation and fear in hand, one of the daughter was left with no other choice but to dial 911 for help. Before calling for help, the daughter had said to his dad: "Dad slow down, you're driving 90, Dad slow down, Dad pull over!" When the girls pledged the dad to slow down and pull over, not only did he not stop, he drove even faster. After the arrest, police found out the Montoya had five previous DWI arrests. During custody, he was charged with one more count of DWI and three counts of abandonment or abuse of a child.
I think the daughter had done the right thing, though many other children wouldn't or can't do the same to their dad. I hope this action taken by the girl will be drilled into Montoya's head and make him realize what's important. It's very dangerous to get behind the wheels drunk, it puts other drivers in danger, let alone his children. Though some parents might seem old, but they're still not mature enough to handle the responsibilities of being a parent and knowing what's important. I hope this will be a wake up call for Montoya and for all the other parents in the world who still don't know their priorities.

China's Communist party unveils new team

It seems like China is sticking to the same president as the last five years. Hu Jintao won a second consecutive five-year term in office, as China's Communist party chief today. With a new era, comes a new lineup that features potential successors, but yet, it could invite a divisive battle to succeed him. During this new era, Hu’s signature policy programme is to help the poor and saw the retirement of a key rival. I quote “We are fully aware of our difficult tasks and great responsibilities," Hu said as he introduced the new nine-man Politburo standing committee, the party's most powerful body. Hu’s ability to manage his policy and making it happen will determine how united the party is in dealing with tension over the yawning gap between the rich and poor in the country. However, if he does manage to stick to his policy and goal, he will be able to turn his attention and money on health, education and other services which had beed negelacted in the headlong drive for economic suceess and growth.
I am shocked by the outcome of the election, yet happy of the result. Hu Jintao has been a great chief of China, and has led China to the glory road, from my own opinion. China is developing and spending quickly and with the same leader in office helps because there won’t be much changes made and growth of China can progress at the same speed. I support Hu’s policy towards helping the poor and decrease the gap between the rich and the poor because it can really affect China’s economy in the future. If Hu can manage this big tension, he will be favored by the majority of the people of China and he will have more time on his hands to imporve health care and education in China which are also crucial for the growth of China. I believe Hu Jintao and his new team will continue to lead China into prosperity and wealth!

Children find body of a child in a suitcase in a park in Australia

On Wednesday, a report came in from Sydney, Australia informing us that a group of 10 children between the age of 10 to 12 that was playing in a park which is surrounded by houses and is a spot for picnics, walking and cycling. on Wednesday, picked up a suitcase which was floating in a pond, and found the body of a youngster inside. Immediately, police divers searched the pond and found potential witnesses for clues to who the youngster was and how he died. Detective Chief Inspector Gary Clark told reporters that identifying the body was difficult because it had been in the water for some time. But officials were sure that the boy was between the age of 5-10 years old. A forensic examination of the body would start on Thursday.

After reading this article, the first question that come to my mind is “how could anyone be sick enough to do this?”. I think this is a sad, scary and serious issue happening in our world. Upon finding the youngster, no one was even able to identify him, and everyone in the world is saying how we need to protect the young and old but it’s all talk, and talk is weak. A child who possibly didn’t even live to the age of 10 was killed in a briefcase, does he deserve it? NO! He has just as much right to live as anybody else in the world, and this tells me how much the world really cares about others. I think us, humans, must wake up and noticed the real danger instead of fighting some dumb war in Iraq!

Hitler's globe going up for auction

This article about auctioning Hitler’s valuable objects such as his globe came in this morning. When Hitler died in World War II, soldiers who survived the war had looted his private residence, even stripping the leather from Hitler’s furniture. Nearly everything of value was taken by soldiers, except for the fuehrer's globe! John Barsamian, now 91 is the owner/holder of this precious item. When he found this precious item he was a 28 year old chief warrant and he had kept it for more than 60 years since the war in his home in Oakland, and now, he is putting this artefact up for sell. Hitler’s Globe isn’t the only valuable object he found after the war, he also found all the military paperwork that allowed him to bring it back to the United States, including a certificate that reads "1 Global Map, German, Hitler's Eagle Nest." John Barsamian found the globe in May 1945 in Berghof, which is the home of Hitler in the Bavarian Alps town of Berchtesgaden. John didn’t want anyone to know about the globe, therefore, he only told his close friends who mentioned it. He told the reporter that “Hardly anyone knew I had it”. But after beating cancer and burying his wife, Viola in 2004, he is ready to give up the globe and let the world know about it. The globe is expected to have a value of $15,000 to $20,000 during the auction.
I think this is very cool to know that someone still has valuable items from the war, especially if it belongs to Hitler. Being able to possess an item for such a long time is quite impressive, considering it’s from the war time. I think we are quite fortunate to know that people like John is willing to share precious items such as this globe to the world instead of keeping it a secret and end up losing a important piece of historical item forever. This is a very important piece of historical item and people can learn a lot from this globe. Though I have never seen this globe, so I wouldn’t know the condition of the globe, but, I still think that this globe should be worth more for the amount of historical information that this globe contains; we never know, but this globe may allow us to learn more about Hitler, and his tactics used during the war. Anyhow, I think who ever buys this globe during the auction should feel honoured and proud and should try his best to keep the globe in the best condition possible.

More lead found in Chinese-made toys

Today afternoon, a report came in from the associated press, recalling that more than half-million Chinese-made products have more than the stated amount of led in them, including "Pirates of the Caribbean" and Baby Einstein toys, because they contain dangerous levels of lead. These are just a few toys among the 555,200 products recalled, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday afternoon. Toys and products that contain large amount of led are imported and sold by Toys “R” Us Inc. and also, variety of wooden toys and products sold by KB toys Inc. Even aluminums water bottles, imported and sold by the sports authority Inc. Energizer Canada Inc. told reporters that the leather strap attached to the medallion squeeze light contained paint with lead levels exceeding the amount prescribed by Canadian regulations. Energizer Canada Inc. said that about 10,500 lights were distributed in Canada. These products were assembled in China between July 2006 and May 2007 and were sold at retail stores at the beginning of September. Under current U.S. regulations, children's products found to have more than 0.06 per cent lead accessible to users are subject to a recall. The recall also included cups shaped like Frankenstein's head with high levels of lead in their surface paint which can be dangerous when a person drinks out of the cup. Even products that aren’t for kids contain high level of lead in them, including bookmarks, and journals with lead-tainted surface point. The number of highly toxic lead products included in the recall is shocking: About 79,000 "Pirates of the Caribbean" medallion squeeze lights, imported by the Eveready Battery Co; About 15,000 Totally Me! Funky Room Decor Sets, manufactured by Hong Kong-based CKI Toys and imported by Toys "R" Us Inc; About 10,000 wooden Pull-Along Alphabet & Math Blocks wagons, Pull-Along Learning Blocks wagons imported by KB toys Inc; About 63,000 green, plastic cups shaped like Frankenstein's head, imported by Dollar General Merchandising Inc; About 192,000 key chains imported by Dollar General Merchandising Inc; About 150,000 bookmarks and journals, imported by Antioch Publishing; About 11,200 Alpine Design aluminium water bottles imported by The Sports Authority Inc.
I personally think this is a very big problem for Canada. With products that contain high levels of lead in them can harm not only children, but even adults with health problems. Young child are very weak inside and has no defence with germs and toxic materials, especially when young infants like to suck, or bite on lego blocks, or toys. Consuming large amount of lead can endanger kids, causing problems to the kid, internally. With Canada being one of the best countries to live in, I think it’s about time that Canada bring up their standards for security with the products being imported into the country. We all know that most of our products, rather it’s toys, cups, or bags, mostly are imported from China, and if China is doing a bad job making products, then it becomes a huge problem for Canada and will have a negative impact in the market for Canada. The foreign trade association of Canada should also warned their world trading partners, especially China to make healthy, non-toxic products.

Troops kill Afghan civilian

Yesterday in Kandahar, a Canadian soldier “'accidentally'” fired a single round on a motorcycle. A Afghan man was killed and the young passenger in the car was seriously injured, which was immediately taken to the Afghan national police to the hospital in Kandahar City. Right after the shot, the Canadian convoy stopped immediately to perform rescue and provide aid. It was made clear that the shot was not caused by enemy in sight. The patrol experienced an equipment malfunction, which resulted in an accidental discharge from a weapon system. The young boy who was injured during the shot was transferred to the military hospital at Kandahar Airfield, where he underwent surgery. After the accident, there was some conflict in the information told by the military and the boy's family. The military said the man who was shot was around 35 with a 8 years-old young boy in the passenger seat, but t. Large red signs on the front of all military vehicles warn drivers to keep away. he family said that the two people in the car were brothers, one was 18 or 19 and the other was 12. No is sure of the age of the two injured citizens yet, but a full investigation will be taking place. It is said that Canadian military will be meeting with the victim’s family soon. Civilian casualties have been a source of scathing Afghan criticism for foreign troops. Public announcement and large red signs on the front of all military vehicles all warn drivers to keep away and stay in a fair distance towards military vehicles. If a civilian vehicle gets too close to military vehicles who are patrolling the city streets, the military vehicle will sound off a warming alarm, and if the civilian vehicle continues to advance, the military vehicle will shoot warning shots in to the sky.
Danger and fear is common in anyone, including citizens, even a soldier when entering a foreign country, let alone to patrol the city streets. Though the shot that was "accidentally" fired yesterday, it still caused a great amount of conflict between the military and the citizens of Afghan. I think this accident should've never happened because no matter what the military says, it's still their responsibilities to keep their weapons under good condition and should know everything about their weapon. Reports say that it was because of weapon malfunction; well, if the soldier had check the weapon before-hand, no citizen of Afghan would be killed or injured. The more "accident" shots that come out of a soldiers gun, the more tension it will create between foreign military and the citizens of Afghan, and sooner or later, there will be rebellion from the citizens. Watching out for suicide bombers can be supported, but rounds being fired through weapon malfunctioning is not an excuse and I think it is not fair to the citizens of Afghan to walk or drive on the streets with fear and danger always at the back of their mind.

Town torn over 'confession' by accused killer arsonist, 10

On Monday, October 1st, in the morning, a 1o-year-old boy from a small town of Ohio was charged with arson and murder in the deaths of his mother and four others, when he set blaze the duplex that he was living in on September the 16th. He; however, was able to escape the fire with out any injuries. The boy's attorny David Rohrer, told Darke County Juvenile Court Judge Michael McClurg on Monday morning. Sadly, during the fire, his mother, Chanan Palmer; his half-sister Kaysha, 8, and three children of Christy Winans: Kayla Winans, 6; Je'Shawn Davis, 5; and Jasmine Davis, 3 weren't able to escape the fire, which led to the death of these innicient people. The duplex became a raging inferno within five minutes. Winans' mother, Sabrina Jones, screamed at the boy's supporters outside the court on Monday by saying, "My grandkids didn't even see the ago of 10." William Zink described the boy's situation to the public, he told the reporters that the boy was overcomming difficulties when his step-farther past away with the sickness of AIDS. Zink also said that the boy had no bed to sleep on, he was sleeping on a couch in the duplex. The charges has been passed on, the boy will now be under house arrest and staying with grandmother Tammy Reed. The judge had no intention in altering the charges of the boy which are: one juvenile count of arson and five counts of murder. The arson count carries a minimum of one to three years in detention. The murder counts could keep the boy in custody until age 21.
I think this is a horrible thing to happen to any family, because it's devestating, espicially to the Winans family. It's a horrific thing to lose all three of your children, espicially when it was a 10-year-old boy who set the fire. She can't possibly do anything more to the boy than what it has already been done. On top of this, having three dozen of people waiting outside the court, showing support to the boy, I can understand the frusteration that is going on within the Winanas family. Sepetmber 16th was a horrible day for the small town of Ohio, with all excuses set aside, 4 innicent people were killed, and three of them being small children who hasn't even reach the age of 10 yet. Issues like this should never happen, even though the boy is only 10, he is still old enough to understand, and even he doesn't, his family should guide him and prevent events like this from happening. This issue tells that world that no matter where we come from or what we are doing, we should be looking out for each other, guiding one another from walking off to different tracks, this can bring danger into our society and community!
